CS371p Spring 2021: Yichen Zhang

Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. Very excited to study in the U.S.

Why are you in this class?

I took SWE with Dr. Downing, and I really like the way he taught that course, excluding the cold calling part, and so I want to continue to take another Dr. Downing’s highly rated course. Also, I’ve never coded in C++, and I want to get exposed to it.

How did you like the two lectures?

The first two lectures are exactly like the first two in SWE, discussing syllabus and docker setup. The lectures are well-paced and Dr. Downing is very patient to answer any questions that we have.

How did you feel about the cold calling?

I thought I was already used to it, but it was still stressing me out a bit. I’m sure everybody in this class will put their phones away and pay more attention to the lectures.

What made you happy this week?

I’m feeling excited about CS courses I registered for this semester. Data Mining and Autonomous Driving are really fun in terms of the schedule. I’m looking forward to learning more Machine Learning techniques and getting a car to navigate by itself.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

For those who have knee pain after jogging, the pain might come from weak quads, so make sure you strengthen your quads to support your knees better.
