What did you do this past week?

Nothing special was actually going on this past week. For this class, I’ve been reviewing python3, trying to pick up what I learned a long time ago. I don’t use python a lot. I plan to get an early start on this project today if I have enough time. Another CS class I am taking is computer vision. I had to learn MatLab to do some image processing. Besides all this, I was busy with other classes, such as maths and accounting.

What’s in your way?

I think maintaining a balance between life and study can be very difficult this semester. It may not be the case. But so far based on my understanding of all three CS courses I signed up for, I have to admit the fact that I have no related experience in all three. It might take me a lot of time trying to figure out what each lecture is about and how to do each project.

What will you do next week?

Next week I plan to finish Collatz for Software Engineering, and assignment 1 for computer vision, both due in about a week and a half. I need to finish the first project for cloud computing due next Saturday. For other classes, I think I should be able to finish them this weekend, so they are not included in my plan for next week.

What was your experience of assertions, unit tests, coverage, and continuous integration? (this question will vary, week to week)

I have never used unit tests, coverage, or continuous integration before this class. But after the third lecture which covered the use of unit tests and coverage, I tried these functions on my own. I think Collatz will help me get familiarized with testings better. Assertions were introduced in Operating Systems. I used them a lot for precondition and postcondition checks.

What made you happy this week?

I felt a little sick last week, but I think I’m fully recovered and getting back to work. I signed up for intramural basketball this semester again. I haven’t been able to play basketball for a while, so I am excited that I will go back to the court and compete against other teams.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I just figured out how to do some very simple image processing by using Matlab. It’s a great tool that I put down on before. In terms of computer vision and maybe many other realms of studies, Matlab is very handy.
